5 disciplines to increase your capacity in Christ

Your 5 Spiritual Disciplines for the week

Every Sunday, we bring you 5 different disciplines and perspectives to increase your capacity of serving God for His Kingdom. As always, we welcome your ideas. Simply reply to this blog with suggestions and comments!

1. Search Me (Psalm 139:23):

The Discipline: Ask God this week to search you. To look deep into the depths of your “inner man” and pull out anything that may be separating you from Him. As I did this, I found that caffeine and sweets have become an idol in my life. As I was praying to God to “search me”, it was revealed that caffeine is what was causing my irritability, and sweets are what was causing me to feel sluggish. You may never know what God may bring up to your soul. Sometimes it is the “little things” that cause us to slowly slip away from God’s calling.

2.Strategize with God (Proverbs 16:9):

The Discipline: The new year is finally underway and is currently on week 3 of 52 (crazy right?). How are your new year intentions going? As we prepare for the week, I encourage you to take 5 minutes in prayer before planning and allow God to integrate Himself into your planning. Give your calendar to the Lord and let Him be the center of it.

3. Reflection and Confession (Proverbs 28:13):

The Discipline: Reflect on the past week and determine how Spirit-led it was. It is easy to get caught in the day to day of life, so reflection helps anchor us back to how much we allowed ourselves to be a vessel for God in the previous week. Where did you fall short? Confess these things to the Lord and let Him take that from you as you head into this week. Set up a game plan for how you will not fall short in those areas again.

4. Watch (Vision For Victory):

The Discipline: The link above will take you to the previous sermon for my family’s home church Agape Church. This week we continued our discussion on Vision for Victory. The discipline here is that we must anchor ourselves to the TRUTH of God’s Word versus the fallible word of us humans. With the rise of podcasts, youtube, and other social channels, it seems as if anyone can be an expert in anything. This leads to massive amounts of misinformation about MANY things. We change as humans, God does not. His Word should not only be the standard of our lives, but it should BE our lives.

5. Silence (Psalm 46:10):

The Discipline: This week, take 1 minute of silence every day and increase it. For example, Monday take 1 minute. Tuesday take 2 minutes. So on and so forth. Silence helps us hear God in the midst of a world that doesn’t stop. It does not always have to be an audible voice, for most of us could not handle that full capacity of hearing the Holy Ones voice yet… However, our spirit may be prompted to take action on something that we would not have otherwise known if we didn’t take time to sit in silence.

Increase your capacity!
